Blue Sky Frames started in 2004. After four different layouts since the mid 1960's, the layouts were becoming harder to move. Three were HO scale and one was N scale. They ranged in size from 4'x8', 6'x8', 2' x 10', and 3' x 10'. Each one had its limitations for expansion. The mention of moving the layout sent people running rather than willing to help. My fifth layout is N-scale on module frames. It was designed to fit a room 15' x 18' when completed. It also leaves room for expansion and contraction. The ease of moving each module is a big factor. When the first four corner modules were built, I hadn't pre-drilled for electrical wiring. By the time the straight modules were constructed, I pre-drilled the frame work for the electrical wiring before assembling the frames. This made a big difference when it came time to wire the layout. I tried to design these module frames for ease of assembly and take down with the hardware that is used. Main objective was to have something that can be moved easily; assembled and/or disassembled in a short time without damage to layout and scenery; and not a lot of hardware parts to keep track of during assembly or take down.
As the layout progressed into the scenery aspect, products were developed from things I was using on my layout as people asked where they could buy those items.
